General information about Vienna airport

Vienna-Schwechat is the only international airport in Vienna and it is the largest in the Central Europe. It is located 18 km southeast of Vienna not far from the town it was named after. The airport was built in 1938 as a military airfield, but later on it turned into a civil airport. The landmark of Vienna-Schwechat is a modern 100 m tall control tower. At present there are two runways, four terminals and a few lounges with jet bridges, gates for transfer and transit passengers operating in the Vienna International Airport. One can get around in the airport taking a bus or a shuttle. Terminal 1 handles domestic flights. Terminal 1A services low-cost carriers. Terminal 2 handles European and international traffic. SKYLINK Terminal services flights of Austrian Airlines and Star Alliance members. City Airport Train connects the city to the centre of Vienna, or one can get to and from the airport by scheduled buses or a taxi. Due to continuing growth of passenger traffic it is planned to build one more runway and further extend transport infrastructure in the airport.
