Lisbon sightseeing and things to do in city
Portugal is the country with rich maritime past, which can be vividly seen and discovered in its capital - Lisbon. The Navy Museum of Lisbon, if not the oldest in the city, then certainly is the most interesting one. Its collection includes more than 15 thousand exhibits. Among them you can see replicas of warships and vessels of different sizes (from half a meter to three meters in length), uniforms of Portuguese sailors, sea-themed paintings and a natural-size ship. The latter is a frigate, charred skeleton of which in 1875 was washed up on the banks of the River Tagus. There it rested for more than a century until it was decided to restore a ship. Now this is a real frigate Fragata D. Fernando II e Gloria in its full size and glory. After coming to Lisbon from Atlanta to discover Portugal's maritime past, make sure to visit the Museum of the Orient. The Portuguese colonialists, who travelled to the countries of Asia, enriched the cultural life of Lisbon. The museum exhibits include furniture, jewellery, books, paintings, porcelain and elegant Japanese screens.
