The only airport in the Republic of Cyprus is located 5 km southwest of Larnaca. Larnaca International Airport was built in 1974, following de facto division of the island into two parts: one under sovereignty of the Republic of Cyprus and another under the Turkish control. The airport is a hub for two major airlines in the country - Cyprus Airways and Eurocypria Airlines serving both scheduled and charter flights. The airport has one runway and one terminal handling approx. 7.5 million passengers a year, numerous cafes and gift shops, and naturally duty-free stores very popular among tourists. There is even a veterinary inspection office in the airport, where you can get a vet clearance for your pet before departure. Due to ever-growing passenger traffic the airport has been reconstructed a few times, which improved quality of services provided there. Larnaca International Airport is linked to other popular resorts in Cyprus, such as Paphos, Limassol and Nicosia, by ground transport.
