Dallas airport information

General information about Dallas airport

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is one of the most high-capacity airfields of global aviation. In 2007, it became the third busiest airport in the world in terms of aircraft movements, including passenger and cargo flights. It also became the seventh busiest airport in the world in terms of passenger traffic. With its total area of 7320 ha it is the second largest airport in the United States (behind Atlanta Airport) and the fourth largest airport in the world. Few years ago, DFW earned the title of the "Best Cargo Airport". In the seventies, a project was finished that implied the creation of a single airport within the territory of two cities: Dallas and Fort Worth. In 1974, the airport was opened for commercial flight. Because of the growing passenger and cargo traffic, a few years later the construction of new runways and the rebuilding of the main terminal began. Today's distinctive feature of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is that it is the only airport in the world with three ATC towers. The distance from the DFW and the centre of Dallas is 24 km. It is possible to get to the centre by taxi, bus or train. Within the airport territory operates the Skylink people mover system. There are also fast-food chains and huge stores selling Texas souvenirs.
