Air travel between Oslo and other Norwegian and world cities is serviced by three airports, with Gardermoen being considered the main one, situated in one of the municipalities north of the capital. It was built in place of a Luftwaffe military aerodrome as an alternative to the Oslo-Fornebu, which had become too busy with a growing number of passengers. Gardermoen has two landing strips and one terminal with piers for domestic and international air transport, securing a high status among other Scandinavian air gates. Other well-known Oslo airports are Oslo Torp and Rygge. They are located outside Oslo and are mostly used for low-cost air routes. Transport links between airports and the city are provided by a wide network of highways, high-speed Flytoget trains, suburban trains and by Flybussen regular bus cruises.
